Co-enzyme Q10 plays a key role in producing energy in the mitochondria, the part of a cell responsible for the production of energy from food sources. 95% of your energy is generated this way. Therefore, those organs with the highest energy requirements &#8211; such as the heart, liver and kidney &#8211; have the highest CoQ10 concentrations.<\/p>\n<p>As we age, levels of Co-enzyme Q10, begin to decline, particularly in the heart. At the age of 80, for example, CoQ10 levels may be less than half what they are at 30.<\/p>\n<p>CoQ10 is also found in relatively small amounts in a wide variety of foods, with the highest amounts found in organ meats such as heart, liver and kidney, as well as beef, sardines, mackerel, peanuts, sesame seeds, olive oil and avocado.<\/p>\n<p>CoQ10 is an important antioxidant which helps inhibit the oxidation of body lipids and proteins.
