It also showed no adverse effect in children.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On the contrary, soy products are associated with a <strong>reduced risk of breast and prostate cancer, <\/strong>as compounds called soy isoflavones appear to act to reduce the blood supply to early-stage cancer cells \u2013 choking off nutrients needed for the cancer cells to grow.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:html --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-13147-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"2\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3>Lower risk of breast cancer \u2013 and lower risk of recurrence<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3864\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3864\" style=\"width: 268px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img  title=\"Should I worry about eating too much soy? NutriShield Multi Vitamins and Minerals\"  width=\"278\" height=\"185\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3864\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Edamame (soy) beans<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A 2013 meta-analysis that analysed data from 22 studies found that Asian women who consumed the most soy isoflavones had a 32% lower risk of breast cancer than those who consumed the least. A 2014 meta-analysis reached similar conclusions.<\/p>\n<p>The effect even extended to women who had previously suffered from breast cancer. Those diagnosed with oestrogen-negative breast cancer, and who consumed the most soy isoflavones, had a 21% lower risk of dying from cancer compared with those who ate the least.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the <em>Women\u2019s Healthy Eating and Living Study<\/em> indicates that soy may help protect breast cancer survivors. Women who ate the most soy reduced their risk of cancer returning by half.<\/p>\n<p>But how?<\/p>\n<p>Your cells have two different kinds of oestrogen receptors: alpha and beta. Estrone, the main oestrogen in women after menopause, binds mainly to the alpha receptor. Soy isoflavones preferentially bind to beta receptors \u2013 which are the receptors that can trigger the growth of cancer cells. And this may reduce the risk for dementia, according to a study published in the journal <em>Alzheimer's &amp; Dementia<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers checked brain images for lesions in brain white matter which are associated with cognitive disease in almost 100 elderly participants and tracked their equol levels.<\/p>\n<p>Those who produced more equol from dietary soy products had 50% fewer white matter lesions than those with lower equol levels.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese populations have more gut microbes that help produce these soy metabolites, compared to Western populations, due to their higher consumption of dietary soy.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-13147-0-0-5\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor\" data-index=\"5\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p><!-- wp:image {\"id\":8961,\"align\":\"center\",\"linkDestination\":\"custom\"} --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:html --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:heading {\"level\":3} --><\/p>\n<h3>Soy benefits for inflammatory conditions and osteoporosis<\/h3>\n<p>The <em>Shanghai Women\u2019s Health Study<\/em> \u2013 a long-term study of the diets of 1,005 middle-aged Chinese women \u2013 found that the more soy products the women consumed, the less inflammation they had. Inflammation is a major factor in arthritis, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, several studies published in journals including the <em>American Journal of Epidemiology<\/em> point to soy and soy isoflavones helping to reduce osteoporosis \u2013 and therefore potential bone fractures \u2013 by around 30%.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5227\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5227\" style=\"width: 182px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img  title=\"Should I worry about eating too much soy?
