C<\/strong>: Almost all babies are colour blind when they are born, so for the first week or so they only see black and white. But in as little as a week they begin to see colours \u2013 especially reds and orange. The average human can distinguish well over a million colours.<\/p>\n

As adults, one man in 12 (8%) is colour blind but only one woman in 200, as the gene responsible for the condition is carried on the X chromosome. If you can see a 7 in the circle above you are not colour blind!<\/p>\n

Most Caucasian (white) babies are born with blue eyes, but exposure to ultra-violet light can change the colour. People with blue eyes have a higher alcohol tolerance. Women blink twice as often as men.<\/p>\n

Your eyes are extremely sensitive, able to detect just a few photons of light. If you take a look on a very clear night at the constellation of Andromeda, you should make out a little fuzzy patch of light. The Andromeda galaxy is 2.5m light years away, so when the photons of light that hit your eye began their journey, there were no human beings! You are looking back in time through 2.5 million years.<\/p>\n

Humans are bio-luminescent and glow in the dark, but the light that we emit is 1,000 times weaker than our human eyes are able to pick up!<\/p>\n

A large research trial, called the ‘Age-Related Eye Disease Study’ (AREDS), showed that people with rich levels of the antioxidant vitamins A, C, E, beta-carotene and the minerals zinc and copper are less vulnerable to the progression of the eye disease ARMD \u2013 Age Related Macular Degeneration.<\/p>\n
